Surf Restoration
Local surfers are well aware of the deteriorating quality of waves at a number of our beaches, including State Park, Riviera, La Suen (Lost Winds), and Cottons.
By replenishing sand regularly, and implementing retention strategies such as berming, artificial reefs and other mitigations, we can restore our sandbars and eliminate backwash refraction. Some artificial reef designs have not only helped with sand retention but actually created new surf breaks around the world, and we need to research these options. Get involved and help us move these strategies forward!
